World Record Attempt

July 27th, 2008

Kathryn, Carter, and I tried to get in the Guinness Book of World Records for participating in the longest line of air rafts. I don’t think we quit made the record, unfortunately. We were part of the contingent from the sailing club, and they are always doing something fun. It was a crazy scene, and we had fun.

Update 8/1/2008 - News coverage here.

Work on the Nursery

July 21st, 2008

Well, in preparation for Carter I have been scraping ceilings and burying myself in spackle dust. No son of mine will have a popcorn ceiling in their bedroom! The room is all primed, ready for paint on the ceiling, maybe another primer coat on the walls. These walls were very beat-up and it took awhile to smooth them out also. I now have the blog and will keep mentioning home improvements here. Older stuff can still be found in my website archive.

Sailing improvements

July 21st, 2008

July 21st Regatta

Sailing is still a blast. Yesterday, for the first time, I did not come in last in one race! It must have been good luck that Kathy come along to support me. I came in last the rest of the races, but I still had lots of fun.

More Sailing fun

July 15th, 2008

No pictures this time, as Kathy has been busy taking care of / getting ready for the baby. However, for the last two weekends, I have participated in the Sailing club Regattas. Its been a blast! The kids are kicking my butt, but I am watching them and trying to learn to do what they do. Moreover, we have had so much wind that I have been tipping the boats over! With sufficient wind, I can tell you that hiking out is every bit as fun as it looks.

The only downside of sailing so far is that I have to do it alone. I would really like to get a cabin boat and share the experience with Kathy and Carter. Budget is fairly limited for now, but I admit I am looking through Craigslist for a boat, particularly a San Juan 21. If you are looking for a vehicle, you should check out this mash-up. It gets bonus points for being the only mash-up that 1) is useful 2) does not use google maps

Map My Triathlon

July 7th, 2008

I have found a cool site called http://www.mapmytri.com that lets me map my workouts. Gotta love the mash-up. You can see my profile on the site. I am looking to integrate a workout RSS feed. Here is my usual bike route:

Mid-Ohio 2008

July 7th, 2008

My family at Mid-Ohio I was a bit slow in blogging this, but on June 28th I went to Mid-Ohio to watch vintage car racing. Even better, I was joined by just about my whole family! I had previously seen vintage races with my dad (including a great trip to Laguna Seca for the Monterey Historic races and the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in 2002). I also been to Mid-Ohio and Watkins Glen with my Uncle Tom. This was unique in that it was the first time I got to share it with my mom, as well as my Uncle Bob, Aunt Margot, and cousin Laura. As if that wasn’t enough, I also got to go camping with my brother Marc, his wife Shannon, and dog Tius! It was a great weekend, the downpour we got caught in did not damper my spirits.

Sandbagging

June 27th, 2008

We have been lucky the flooding of the Mississipi has not affected us at all. On the otherhand, my commute takes me through the floodplain where I see underwater sports fields and a boat/RV storage center. Just as I was driving by there on Wednesday NPR announced an urgent need for volunteer sandbaggers in the area. Unfortunately, it took me over 1/2 hour to find the information on how to volunteer. On the plus side, I spent my evening helping with some other very nice people.

Phone blogging

June 17th, 2008

If you see this post, it means I have sucessfully set up email from my phone being added to my blog. This should mean more frequent content updates going forward.

City Museum

June 15th, 2008

Kathy & I in the hall of mirrors at the City MuseumToday, Kathy took me to the City Museum. Wow! That was a lot of fun. Strongly encourage you to bring your child there. As ours was not yet ready, we had to bring our inner-child. It was a blast! Hard to describe. The best description I have heard referring to it was a “surrealist landscape”, I would add “that begs to be explored.” Please enjoy the picture gallery here.
